Fremont led his expedition across the brush-covered slope off in the distance to the right of the bottom red stripe on the flag in the dead of winter, 1844. We usually get out late December and can run into April if the ice holds out. Winters seem long in Wisconsin, but all it takes is some warm clothes and studded tires and riding season lasts all winter long!" - Brett A. Lobajeski of Fond Du Lac, Wis.
